Evening

The river flows east
The wind in defiance
Blows the small waves west
Riverbank grasses
Move gracefully
Arching their stems toward the western sun

A cool night
Full of contradictory winds
Layers of clouds
Lit pink and blue
By the setting sun
Move in opposite directions

Goodbye my friend
Soft spoken
Inclusive
Full of compassion
Steady in thought and action

I imagine you
Walking a path
Similar to this evening
For it is your evening

It must be beautiful
This evening walk
Along the flowing river
The air agitated
Yet the whole scene
Calming
Filling the senses

Travel well on your journey, my friend
Your calm steady demeanor
Will suit you well
For this walk along the river
Through the grasses
Into the coming of evening
